Who is rln?

I've been a writer for as long as I can remember. When I was ten years old, I would staple ‘pocket’ book-size sheets of paper together and fill each one with a story.  By the age of twelve, I’d written my first 95-page novella—still with me, preserved within the pages of that year's diary.

I got my first laptop—a Compaq—in 1995, which I used primarily for writing, and but for an extended sixteen year hiatus—from 2004 until 2020—have been honing my craft ever since.

Through my writing, I try to adopt a posture taught to me by my Dalmatian.  She would show her 'side-face' to another dog to signal non-confrontation while mediating a tense encounter.  Science Fiction has become my side-face; it is the allegory that allows me to discuss some of reality’s sharpest edges.

Since 2018, my office has been the backseat of my car.  I live, work, and edit from the road, with my dogs beside me.  I write every day, usually stopping only when the laptop battery runs dry.

Why do I write?

Quite simply, because I love it.  Even in a confined space, there is nothing quite like the freedom of conjuring other worlds.
